Censorship is and always will be a big deal. I’m pretty sure it started with alternative music, think Twisted Sister, but now most music is. This has nothing to do with profanity but with the subject of race. I think of hip hop, which my mother listens to, they drop the N word quite a bit and I’m not saying that is good or bad, it’s almost expected and therefore viewed as okay.
On the other hand one of my favorite bands, Coheed and Cambria, has an amazingly beautiful metal/prog song (Al The Killer) has a chorus that goes like this
“when I kill her I’ll have her
dance upon the grave of the dead upon your grave
die white girls die white girls
dance upon the grave of the dead upon your name”
My mother found that disturbing, and most likely some of you will too. When I asked her why she said because I’m a white girl. She was even more disgusted when she discovered the color of the lead vocals, Calaudio’s, skin color.
Is this any diffence that makes her’s okay and mine worse? Please comment what you think! Is this any diffent then when hip hop and rap make racial comments? Do you find the song lryics of the song I listen to offensive? Do you find racial slurs in other music offensive? Tell me exactly what you think on this!

TRIVIUM - the crusade

posted by youremmi

in a word AWESOME. Awesome dosn’t even cover it. It’s grand. It’s beautiful. It’s TRIVIUM. Vocals have improved temendoulsy.
Check this out.

Ignition - intro very political but that is how I like some music. Trivium has solid punk values.

To the Rats - a visious warning, “I’ll break every bone in your face, if you mess with my life” catchy!

This World Can’t Tear Us Apart - powerful, deep lovesong can get alittle mushy but it’s pretty solid.

And Sadness Will Sear - THE BEST DOWNLOAD THIS!!!! meaningful, beautiful song. It’s beautiful, just beatiful.

Unrepent - awesome (and slightly disturbing)

The Crusade - awesome istramental

listen with care, not for the faint of hearts!

Contrary to popluar belief, real music is still being produced. Although I spend most my summer with my head in the late 80s and early 90s I have found some finds and I am quite pleased.
One highlight was Coheed and Cambria’s No World for Tomorrow. It was epic, dramatic, and in a sense too over done compared to they’re previous album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV from Fear Though The Eyes of Madness. The songs are catchy and no one can resit the “Feathers” music video, which I think won a Kerang! Go Coheed! Also check out Caladio’s side project Prize Fighter Inferno.
Another much anticipated album was Metallica’s Death Magnetic! It was nothing short of spetacular! The songs were at leangth all except one over six minutes, they kept my attention and I can’t choose a farorite. The Unorgiven III was probably the one that got the most coverage but other great songs were My Apocolyps, Cyanide, Judas Kiss, and That Was Just Your Life. Old fans won’t be dissapointed and new fans will be drawn in and hypnotized by their riffs.
I realize this hasn’t been the greatest year for metal so it’s a great time to lost yourself in classics. Dig up old CDs and fall in love with beautiful music. While it seems like every band is in a slump did out some NIN or Misfits. And who doesn’t like alittle Megadeth now and then?
