Rock On - Music

Authors and Their Playlists

posted by laura d.

A year or so ago when I was surfing Stephenie Meyer’s website as a preliminary Twilight fan, I found a link that was called the playlist for Twilight. I clicked it intrigued and found a list of songs that Meyer had put up on her site. The playlist had a few of the tunes that she ‘heard in her head’ whilst writing Twilight.

Some notable songs included, “I’m Not Okay” by My Chemical Romance, “Here With Me” by Dido and “In My Place” by Coldplay. I say notable because they were the songs I actually recognized from her playlist. Then I looked at the other names I hadn’t really seen before and I decided to get a listen. I downloaded Muses’s song, “Time is Running Out”.

I still am not sure whether I really like Muse or not. Different.

But yeah anyways…on to my topic of discussion. Authors and their music ‘playlists’ or soundtracks to their novels. I honestly hadn’t seen an author post their playlist before Stephenie Meyer but then afterwards I noticed Libba Bray, Cassandra Clare and Melissa Marr doing the likes.

When did this start does anybody know? I mean … I haven’t been around for awhile heh heh…so yanno. I mean obviously people in the 60’s and 70’s didn’t have CD playlists but they did listen to music while writing I know that for certain.

For me as a writer, I always ALWAYS need music. I mean, hello I very much need music to write my ‘Music Blog’ haha, but that’s a no brainer. Music is vital in my life. It helps me study whether its just symphonies or songs from the Lord of the Rings soundtrack to tunes from artists like Amerie, Gwen Stefani or Skillet.

I just think it’s really groovy that authors are doing this, allowing readers to see what tunes they listened to, to pen out their novel. It’s cool that they are letting us see their songs, because that can sometimes be a personal thing for certain people. Perhaps they’re embarrased that they have the latest bubble gum pop on their iPod or heavy intense ‘emo’ music.

What if authors started selling soundtracks with their books? ‘Twilight’s soundtrack…featuring Linkin Park, Dido, David Gray and much much more!!!’ What a random mix.

That’s all I’ve got for today. Leave some comments, I’ll write back, sorry about not commenting back. I will now!!!

Dance Tunes

posted by laura d.

Hey guys.

Sorry I’ve been MIA (Missing in Action) for the past two weeks because I have been studying intensively for an IB Biologie SL exam……….yes and it was in French. So I’m feeling a bit brain dead at the moment. But I’ve got some new tunes for you to download!!!! I made a groovy dance list in case you haven’t had anything to jump up and spontaneously dance to.

California Dreaming Remix – Benny Benassi

Insomnia – Benny Benassi

Satisfaction – Benny Benassi

 Best classic dance song.
(Hahaha…you see that Benny was my buddy during studying. Groovy tunes.)

Forever – Chris Brown.
There’s a real techno feel to this song. I love it.

Shawty Get Loose Remix – Lil’ Mama f. Chris Brown and T Pain.
Did you know Lil’ Mama is only eighteen years old?! When I saw her on the show for America’s Next Best Dance Crew she sounded so much older…I dunno. It surprised me haha.

Just Dance – Lady Gaga
Coolest song I’ve heard. Lady Gaga, I had never heard of her until I did some searching for some new tunes and found her on the charts. She’s so new that I couldn’t find much info on her, she’s from NYC and her debut album is coming out soon.

All I See – Kylie Minogue f. Mims
Go Kylie go! After surviving breast cancer, her latest album is sweet. I love the new tunes on it. She’s such a fighter and survivor. This song is really awesome.

Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow – Paula Abdul
Ok, it’s Paula Abdul and some of you are probably going to be already judging the song as crap but you know what? It’s actually pretty good. I mean when you listen to the song you almost forget its Abdul singing, the forty five year old American Idol judge who just recently made an embarrassing blooper on the show about a contestant singing twice…anyways that’s not the point! The point is, this song is good, listen to it and give it a try. Haha.

Shake Your Pom Pom – Missy Elliot
Song from the movie soundtrack, Step Up 2. I really need to see that movie…but anyways this song is groovy. Missy Elliot is the woman.

Lets Go (clean version) – Trick Daddy and Lil Wayne
Sweetest song ever. My friend and I are choreographing a dance to this pumping song. This got me pumped up while studying…but made me want to dance rather than trying to memorize what the difference was between photosynthesis and cell respiration….gah.

Love in This Club Part 2 – Usher f. Beyonce and Lil Wayne
Nice companion song to the first one. Little slow for my liking but it was on my ‘Exam’ playlist so I’m putting it up haha.

Dangerous – Akon f. Kardinal Offishall
Get this song now!!! Akon makes any song sound good. Sorry, I just really like his voice. But yes, please listen to this song. It’s really good.

Okay that’s all for now. I’ll be back really soon since I’ve neglected my blogging for the crazy exam. But it’s over now so I have a little bit of freedom back!!! Yaaaay. Please leave comments. Bash, agree or give no opinion on the songs in this playlist. Suggest new songs for me, I love listening to new music.

Peace.

Imogen Heap

posted by Justus Attanasio

Hey peole im blogin again this time on the rising artist Imogen Heap.
Most of her songs call for um.. i guess the best way to say is ‘aquired taste’ then again other song from her such as Let Go from her band FrouFrou and Speeding Cars and Cant Take It In are song that everyone can enjoy. They are upbeat and will just give you a feeling of relief and a huge smile. You can find all the song abnove on youtube.
Now im going to talk about one particular song of hers called Hide and Seek. It is difficult to explain this song, the only word i can think of is amazing. Not amazing as in everyone will like it, more as the message hidden in the lyrics. Many people(including me) like this song and many people dont. it currently has about 4mil views. thats all i can really say on that subject so see for yourself and tell me what you think on facebook.
